Foc TR4 is one of the greatest threats to worldwide banana production and has spread rapidly in many countries. The Taiwan Banana Research Institute (TBRI) had been working on Panama TR4 disease-resistant varieties using innovative tissue culture techniques for many years. There are many varieties have bred since 1992, such as ‘Tai-Chiao No1’, ‘Tai-Chiao No3’, ‘Formosana’, Tai-Chiao No 5’, Tai-Chiao No 7’, and ‘Tai-Chiao No 8’. The TBRI has also provided plantlets of tissue cultural seedling of banana to domestic and foreign farmers for growing in the Panama TR4 disease infected farm every year. Philippines, Mozambique, South Africa, and Japan are the major importing countries of tissue culture seedling of banana of TBRI.
